The gynecologist Konstantinos Pantos received his degree in medicine from the University of Athens in 1981. He specialized in Obstetrics – Gynecology at the University of Athens and in 1988 he was awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine, University of Athens. He specialized in the field of medically assisted reproduction at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia (1987-1989).
With nearly thirty years of experience in obstetrics and gynecology as a specialist in the treatment of infertility, Dr. Konstantinos Pantos has experience in all aspects of assisted reproductive technology.
In 1994, Dr. Pantos founded the Center for Human Reproduction, a private response unit of human infertility, which is now one of the largest, most comprehensive, specialized fertility service units in Europe with more than 4000 In Vitro Fertilization cycles occurring annually with couples from around the world. In the last five years in Australia alone, the unit has facilitated delivery of over 500 children, receiving international acclaim for its effective and pioneering practices.
In 2004, Dr. Pantos founded the Genesis Athens Clinic, a modern clinic staffed with leading Grecian researchers and clinicians in a variety of specialized fertility services. Genesis Athens serves as Dr. Pantos’ premier institute in terms of its services in both female and male fertility.
In addition to these clinics, Dr. Pantos has established several modern IVF units in various regions of Greece: Volos (1995-2012), Ioannina (1996 to present), Patras (2007- 2011), bringing infertility treatment closer to patients throughout the nation. Abroad, he has also established the Human Reproduction Unit Diagnostic Centre Medsana in Bucharest, Romania (1997-2002). He has also entered into various partnerships and currently heads the institutions GAIA – Obstetrics and Gynecology, Athens and Euromedica Group, Athens.
Tireless in the search for improvements in the care of his patients and traveling constantly, Dr. Pantos is universally known for his commitment to the fertility sciences and has served as a welcome speaker and research presenter at many conferences and seminars in the field of assisted reproduction. He is a member of several international organizations, including the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, the Fertility Society of Australia, the American Society of Fertility and national organizations including the Greek Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Today, Dr. Pantos serves as the Scientific Director of his flagship institution, Genesis Athens. He continues to research the latest scientific developments and contributes as a catalyst in assisted reproduction innovations. As a specialist in modern methods of fertilization and a highly skilled obstetrician – gynecologist, Dr. Pantos embodies perfectly what the Genesis Athens clinic represents today.
Dr. Pantos has concluded scientific collaborations to conduct research to assess and improve clinical applications in the field of assisted reproduction, with national and international institutions and universities such as the Department of Immunology and Stem Cell Monash (MICSL), Melbourne, Australia, laboratory of Molecular Genetics GENOMA, Rome, Italy, the Medical Genetics laboratory, University of Athens, Greece, PGS Taskforce, the ESHRE – European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology).
n 1997, Dr. Pantos was the first in Greece and one of the few in the world to offer the possibility to grow and transfer blastocyst with improved pregnancy rates. In 2003, Dr. Pantos and his team were pioneers in stem cell biopsy and promfyteftiki genetic diagnosis (PGD) for the diagnosis of beta-thalassemia (thalassemia) .Tote was born the first healthy child worldwide by applying this method . This innovation resulted in the IVF unit included (the only one in Greece) in the history of IVF: Landmarks of assisted reproduction.
The greater acceptance received by the scientific community the research work, which received more than 92 reports in the media internationally, published in 2008, which involved the research new technique for connecting the evolutionary capacity of gene expression patterns. This innovation resulted Dr. Pantos and his team to be included for the second time in the global list of assisted reproduction units (IVF), the History of IVF (IVF Ihistory): Milestones (The milestones).
Recently, Dr. Pantos and his team were selected by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) to participate in randomized Pilot Control (Randomized Control Trial) (http://www.eshre.eu/ESHRE/English/Specialty- Groups / Study-groups / page.aspx / 1546) with the intention to process analysis of the use of preimplantation genetic screening for aneuploidy by comparative microarray hybridization on chromosomal analysis of polar bodies (PB) oocytes collected for IVF.
In February 2011, Dr. Pantos was interviewed on television CNN network on the occasion of delivery of a healthy child after preimplantation genetic diagnosis, a couple where both parents were carriers rare inherited disease of the eye, called congenital amaurosis LEBER http://www.cnn.com/worldview (or directly at http://edition.cnn.com/video/#/video/international/2011/01/31/wv.embryo.euro.switch.bk.d.cnn).
Recently, Dr. Pantos signed an cooperation GENESIS Clinic of Athens with the Athens University, which aims to offer educational e-learning program to graduates of medical and scientists who wish to acquire the necessary skills for a successful career in the assisted area playback.
