Education and Training
Completed his medical training at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
Started his residency program in the United Kingdom and completed it in Greece.
In 2009 he completed his PhD on colonic anastomotic healing at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and he completed his surgical training in2010.
He completed a total of 4 years of fellowship programs on colorectal oncology, pelvic floor surgery and laparoscopic colorectal surgery in GKT hospitals in London, UK.
He was awarded the annual European Society of Coloproctology fellowship in 2012 and has been a laparoscopic surgery trainer since 2014.
He currently teaches in laparoscopic courses in Greece and the UK. His clinical interest is laparoscopic colorectal oncology, surgical IBD management and advanced proctology.
In 2016 he became an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is currently working and teaching at the University Hospital in Thessaloniki. He is the current president of the Mediterranean Society of Coloproctology (MSCP) and the Greek-German Society of Surgery.
He’s a member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery as well as its Greek chapter, and is leading the colorectal chapter of the society in Northern Greece.
He is active in research, particularly in colonic pathophysiology and inflammatory bowel disease.
He has a total of 78 publications in international journals with a total of 1100 citations.
His current Impact Factor is 162 and his H-index is 18.
He has participated in the writing of over 20 book chapters and he’s in the editorial board of the “Techniques in Coloproctology” journal.
